Thank you for visiting our website. In 1996, God led me to start an independent fundamental church in Branson, Missouri. In September of 1996 we began holding services in the condominium that we were living in. In April of 1997, Calvary Baptist Church purchased four acres (present location) and my wife and I purchased a home on Miller Drive. Our home became the meeting place for Calvary Baptist Church for the next six years. In 2002 we began construction of our building at 625 Truman Drive and began holding services there in March 2003. God has truly blessed Calvary Baptist Church. Over the years God enabled us to add three more “city” lots and three more acres to our property.
Since we have been in Branson, the City has undergone many changes. It went from a family orientated and God-honoring town to one that is now only concerned about making another dollar. This is evident in the change that occurred within the Churches in town. Almost every church has become “contemporary” with its “praise and worship” service. This change comes with a price as the “preaching” has become less important in their services. Many tourists have told me that there was not much difference between the theatres and the church anymore, as both are there to entertain.
At Calvary Baptist Church, we believe that the emphasis of worship must be centered on the preaching of God’s Word. The Bible commands us to “preach the word.” Romans 10:17 “Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” Paul tells us that God uses the “foolishness of preaching” to bring men to Christ. There is a place and purpose for good music (one that carries a message and is never confused with rock and roll) during the Church service but music should never take the place of preaching. I personally invite you to visit Calvary Baptist. Every Sunday school class is taught a lesson from God’s word. Here, you will hear a message from God’s word as we strive to carry out the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20. If we want to see people come to know Jesus Christ as Savior of their life, we must “preach the word!”
Please take the time to explore our website. We have posted our articles of faith, service times, a list of missionaries that we support, and a calendar of events. If you live in the Branson area we would love to meet you. If you are taking a vacation or just visiting the Branson area, please remember that you are always welcome at Calvary.
Once again, I want to thank you for visiting our
website. May God richly bless you.
In Christian Service,
Gary Williams
